DadCab
Track. Honk. Tip.
An Uber-style ride tracker for one very specific driver: Dad. The kids request a pickup, watch the cab move on a live map, get a push notification when he's close, and rate the ride when it's over. “I'm five minutes away” has meant anywhere from 5 to 40 minutes for as long as cars have existed — DadCab gives the kids real telemetry, and gives Dad a rider rating to hold over them at dinner.
The live app is invite-only — riders need a link from Dad.
Live cab tracking
Dad's phone streams location while a ride is active. The kid view shows the cab crawling across the map — no more “where ARE you?” texts.
Ride requests
Kids pick a saved destination — school, practice, a friend’s house — and hail a pickup. Requests de-dupe, so mashing the button doesn’t summon five dads.
Push notifications
Accepted, en route, picked up, arrived — a Web Push ping at every step of the ride lifecycle, straight to the home-screen app.
Ratings go both ways
Riders rate the driver, and the driver rates the riders — across custom categories like snack provisioning and on-time departure. The leaderboard keeps everyone honest.
Messages & moods
Lightweight in-cab messaging and mood check-ins between driver and riders, with full ride history for settling disputes.
The meter is running
An admin panel queries the Fly.io billing API to show exactly what the whole operation costs to host. Spoiler: pennies.
